Star-Studded Field Announced for USATF Women's 10 km ChampionshipsPublished by
Four Former Champions Return to USATF Women's 10 km ChampionshipsBy Adam Kopet A star-studded field has been announced for the USATF Women's 10 km Championships on June 8 in New York, including four previous champions. Returning champions include Stephanie Bruce (2018), Aliphine Tuliamuk (2017), Emily Sisson (2016) and Deena Kastor (2007). Bruce is coming off a win and personal best at the USATF Half Marathon Championships. Tuliamuk finished third at last month's Rotterdam Marathon with a more than six-minute personal best. Sisson made her marathon debut at last month's London Marathon, finishing sixth in 2:23:08. Kastor broke the Masters American record for 8K at the Shamrock Shuffle in Chicago in March. Other athletes competing include Jordan Hasay, who has made her return to racing this year following two injuries in 2018. She finished third at last month's Boston Marathon. Sara Hall is set to compete after garnering two podium finishes at the USATF Half Marathon and 25 km Championships earlier this month. Emma Bates won the USATF 25 km Championships ahead of Hall and she was the top American finisher at the NYC Half earlier this year. Additional athletes of note include Laura Thweatt, Rachel Schneider, Lindsay Flanagan, Erika Kemp, Diane Nukuri and Roberta Groner. In all, 34 women are currently scheduled to compete for $75,000 in prize money, including $20,000 going to the winner. The race will be streamed live on USATF.TV. More news |
