Road racing veterans challenge for USA Women’s 10 km Championship title10/5/2012
INDIANAPOLIS - The USA Women’s 10 km Championships will feature some of the top veterans of U.S. road racing including Magdalena Lewy-Boulet (Oakland, Calif.), Katie McGregor (Savage, Minn.) and Jen Rhines (Mammoth Lakes, Calif.) at the the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women on Monday Oct. 8.
2008 Olympian Lewy-Boulet recently won the Kaanapali Maui Half Marathon after finishing 10th in January at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Marathon. McGregor will certainly have the advantage of course-knowledge on her side as this will be her sixth year competing on this course. McGregor is a two-time national champion at this distance with back-to-back national titles in 2005 and 2006. McGregor finished second at this race last year and is the top returning runner. Relative-newcomers challenging the veterans will include Neely Spence (Lake Orion, Mich.), who recently finished as the runner-up at the USA 5 km Championships, and Stephanie Rothstein (Flagstaff, Ariz.), who finished third at the USA 20 km Championships. Also in the mix for the title will be Lindsey Scherf (Fayetteville, N.C.) who finished second at the USA 25 km Championships this year and will be competing in the USA 10 Mile Championships on Sunday.
